@Cait - Thank you for stopping by with such great advice! I really appreciate it. I definitely enjoy commenting on other people's blogs. Sometimes I just feel like I don't have anything to contribute, and that's where I get a little shy! But I've just gotta push past that. :) Thanks for the tip about putting a link to my blog at the end of each comment.

@Fourth Musketeer - Thanks! I have really enjoyed participating in Armchair BEA, so I'm going to be on the lookout for other events I can participate in, for sure. I'm really feeling a sense of community- which is exactly what I was hoping for when I started this blog!

I do a couple weekly memes (Waiting on Wednesday, In My Mailbox and sometimes Top Ten Tuesday) and I also participate in blog hops on occasion. I found that doing a giveaway every once in a while really did help add to my readership.

Definitely events like this, and memes. obviously you don't want to participate in every meme out there but a few select ones will really get your blog out there. I recommend follow friday and the blog blogger hop, over at parajunkee.com and crazy-for-books.com they're both blog hops so it is all about seeing what new blogs are out there. Plus, they take place over the weekend which gives you plenty of time to particpate which brings me to my second point...

comments. comment comment comment. I genuinely can't stress this enough. It's rare for your blog to be successful just by it's very existence, you need to TELL people about it. A lot of people say they don't have time for comments, but that's a personal choice in my opinion. I happily sacrifice an hour of reading to set aside the time to comment on the blogs I read everyday. Make sure your commets are relevant to the post, show you've actually read what was written! something more than "great review" is gonna make the poster really happy and definitely encourage them to check out your blog.

always leave your link too, just put it at the bottom of the post. The way to do this is Reading Everywhere that makes it easy for people to find you.

Use twitter. follow bloggers on twitter and chat to them-it's a great way to meet people on a more casual basis.

Thanks for the advice! I definitely feel like participating in Armchair BEA is bringing me out of my shell, so I will look for more opportunities like this. There's a book blogger meet-up in my area in June, and I'm planning on that. Little by little, I'll get out there. :) Thanks again for the encouragement!

The best thing I think you can do is participate in events like this and be a part of larger events in your community. If an opportunity comes up, both online and in real life, go be a part of it and tell us about it. That always gets people interested!
